James Cronin, a director at Worcester-based recruitment firm GMP Recruitment, will be participating in next year’s TCS London Marathon to raise funds for AngelmanUK, a charity supporting individuals with Angelman syndrome, a rare neurological disorder.
Mr. Cronin, who is part of the Frederick Harlan Group, hopes to raise £10,000 for the charity. His motivation for the fundraising comes from his connection to Ava Pincott, the four-year-old daughter of his business partner, Mike. Ava was born with Angelman syndrome, a condition that affects one in 15,000 people and can lead to significant developmental delays, lack of speech, and balance issues.
Reflecting on his commitment to the cause, Cronin shared his admiration for Ava and her family. “Ava is a wonderful, inspirational, and very happy little girl who approaches life with a smile,” he said. “Children with Angelman syndrome require lifelong support, and being able to contribute towards this has been a huge motivator for me.”
Cronin has begun training for the 26.2-mile event, which takes place in April 2025. “The training is tough, but it’s going well and is encouraging me to lead a healthier lifestyle,” he noted. “Reaching my fundraising target in the coming months would be the icing on the cake and would mean a lot to families affected by the condition across the country.”
AngelmanUK was established in 1992 by parents seeking greater support and community for those affected by the syndrome. The charity has since helped hundreds of families, provided resources and supported projects such as the NHS Angelman clinic in Manchester, which offers specialist care. Plans are underway to expand these services across the UK.
Rachel Martin, Chair of AngelmanUK, praised Cronin’s efforts. “James is going to amazing lengths to support us, and we’re incredibly grateful,” she said. “Our charity relies heavily on donations, and James’s commitment will provide a significant boost. Our board members all have family members with Angelman syndrome, so we understand the challenges faced by Mike, Ava, and others. Raising awareness and fostering community connections is vital to us, and we’re proud of our partnership with the NHS clinic in Manchester. Every penny raised contributes to these goals, and people like James play an integral and inspirational role in our mission.”
For those wishing to support Mr. Cronin’s marathon efforts, donations can be made via his Just Giving page. The funds will go directly towards AngelmanUK’s initiatives, including patient support and future clinic projects. “People’s generosity truly makes a difference,” Martin added, encouraging supporters to back Cronin’s campaign.
