A new £1.5m veterinary practice is set to open in Kidderminster next month, offering specialised care and sustainable facilities.
Veterinary group Linnaeus has announced plans to open Maggie and Marlow, a new small animal practice in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, in November 2024. The £1.5m investment is intended to deliver personalised, high-quality care to pets in the area while creating eight new jobs, with further roles anticipated as the practice grows.
Designed with a welcoming environment in mind, Maggie and Marlow aims to minimise stress for pets visiting the clinic. The layout includes separate waiting areas for cats and dogs to help keep animals calm, and spacious consultation rooms have been designed to offer both patients and their owners’ privacy.
In addition to its in-clinic services, Maggie and Marlow offers a free 24/7 app that allows clients to access advice from qualified vets, read customised articles, and book appointments online.
David Walker, Chief Medical Officer at Linnaeus, expressed his excitement about the new facility: “We’re thrilled to bring Maggie and Marlow to Kidderminster. Our goal is to provide accessible and personalised care to pets and their owners in the community.” He added that the practice’s name was chosen based on feedback from pet owners. “Maggie represents devoted pet owners, while Marlow symbolises the pets who love them back. As pet owners ourselves, we deeply understand the bond between animals and their families, and we’re here to support and celebrate that in Kidderminster.”
Maggie and Marlow’s facilities will be housed in Prospect House, a central location in Lion Square, Kidderminster. Sustainability has been a key focus in the building’s design, which features eco-friendly materials, including recyclable vinyl flooring, ceiling tiles, and acoustic panels. Energy-efficient LED lighting has been installed throughout, and air source heat pumps will be used for heating and cooling to lower the practice’s environmental impact.
The air circulation system has been designed to minimise energy usage by allowing ventilation to be switched off in unoccupied areas. The practice’s energy-efficient design is aimed at reducing overall energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable and clean environment for animals and staff.
The clinical team at Maggie and Marlow will work with advanced facilities, including five consultation rooms, dental equipment, x-ray and ultrasound suites, a laboratory, and two surgical theatres. David Walker noted that the practice would prioritise preventive care, offering services such as weight clinics and dental care to promote long-term pet health.
“Preventive care can significantly enhance the wellbeing of our pets and help reduce the need for emergency or advanced treatment,” Walker said. “At Maggie and Marlow, we’re offering value-for-money health plans to support pet owners in keeping their animals healthy.”
The opening of Maggie and Marlow comes amid a rising demand for veterinary services across the UK, with many practices expanding their services to offer enhanced pet care. Linnaeus hopes that the new practice will serve as a community hub where pets receive high-quality care and owners feel supported in managing their pets’ health.
