The Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award has announced its top 10 finalists for 2024, selected from a staggering pool of 78,000 nurses from 202 countries. One of these finalists will go on to claim the prestigious title and a grand prize of $250,000 at an event later this year.
The shortlist, revealed after a rigorous selection process overseen by Ernst & Young LLP, was narrowed down by both a screening jury and a grand jury. The finalists represent a diverse range of countries and have been recognised for their extraordinary dedication to the field of nursing, often going far beyond their duties to improve patient care and serve their communities.
Among those shortlisted are Archimedes Motari from Kenya, Johnsy Inni from Papua New Guinea, and Laarni Conlu Florencio from the USA. Other finalists include Lilian Nuwabaine from Uganda, Nelson Bautista from the UAE, Nilima Pradeepkumar Rane from India, Maria Victoria Juan from the Philippines, Martin Schiavenato from the USA, Hoi Shu Yin from Singapore, and Sylvia May Hampton from the UK.
Dr Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, praised the finalists for their remarkable contributions. “Each and every one of these nurses has showcased excellence, going above and beyond their duties for the wellbeing of patients and their communities. The Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award was established to honour, celebrate, and reward the exceptional work of nurses and to establish them as role models within their field,” he said.
Dr Moopen also highlighted the importance of nurses within Aster DM Healthcare’s global network. “With more than 9,000 nurses working across Aster DM Healthcare’s facilities in seven countries, we have seen first-hand the commitment and relentless efforts of nurses. This award is the least we can do to shine a spotlight on the critical work being done by the nursing community worldwide.”
The final stage of the competition will involve interviews with a grand jury, made up of respected figures in the healthcare sector, who will evaluate the finalists before selecting the overall winner. The final decision will be announced at a grand gala event in Bengaluru, India, by December 2024.
The Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award aims to bring global recognition to nurses, whose tireless work often goes unnoticed despite being central to healthcare systems. In its short history, the award has already become one of the most esteemed honours in the nursing profession, highlighting the crucial role nurses play in patient care and the wider community.
