A new report from wellness technology firm BON CHARGE highlights the growing popularity of red light therapy, particularly among younger generations, as a cornerstone of modern self-care routines. The inaugural Global Red Light Therapy Trend Report surveyed 7,000 adults across the UK, US, UAE, and Australia, revealing the UAE as a leader in adoption, with seven in ten adults actively using the therapy.
The findings, released alongside BON CHARGE’s brand refresh, underscore the firm’s mission to simplify wellness through science-backed technology. Co-Founder Katie Mant described red light therapy as a “game-changer” in wellness. “Our research highlights its transformative impact on areas like skin health, sleep, and recovery, solidifying its role in the future of proactive self-care,” she said.
Key Global Insights
The report revealed red light therapy is still a relatively new addition to wellness routines, with two-thirds of global users adopting the practice in the past two years. Adoption is highest among adults aged 18-34, with standout engagement in the UAE (77%), followed by the US and Australia (both 53%) and the UK (46%).
Regional trends showed significant differences:
- UAE: Red light therapy enjoys widespread popularity, with 70% of adults using it. Recommendations by professionals such as skin specialists drive this trend, alongside increasing public awareness.
- Australia: Sleep improvement and skincare are top motivators after muscle and joint relaxation. More than 61% of Australian users began using red light therapy within the past two years.
- United States: Men are more likely to use red light therapy than women, with 40% reporting adoption. Improved sleep and mood are key benefits cited by US users.
- United Kingdom: While uptake lags behind other markets, interest is growing rapidly among younger adults. Skincare benefits are a leading reason for use, with muscle and joint relief also proving popular.
Devices and Usage
Red light face masks emerged as the most popular device globally, chosen by over a third of users. Regional preferences vary, with devices for soothing joint stiffness leading in the UK (38%) and the US (30%).
Shaping the Future of Wellness
BON CHARGE Co-Founder Andy Mant highlighted the broader implications of the findings. “This report reflects a global movement towards proactive wellness. As scientific validation of red light therapy grows, we expect it to become as integral to daily life as nutrition and fitness,” he said.
BON CHARGE also unveiled a revamped website and brand refresh to align with its mission of offering the world’s widest range of wellness products on a single platform. The report and additional resources are available for download at boncharge.com.
