Pathways.org, a leading non-profit focused on early childhood development, is launching a new initiative to promote a simple yet essential practice for infant growth – Tummy Time. The campaign, #TummyTimeDay, is set to kick off on 2nd October and aims to educate parents and caregivers about the benefits of this developmental exercise for babies.
Tummy Time involves placing babies on their stomachs while awake and supervised, helping them strengthen core muscles, improve head control, and develop motor skills needed for milestones such as rolling over, crawling, and walking. It can also prevent conditions like flat head syndrome and torticollis, a neck issue that restricts head movement. Despite its importance, many parents remain unaware of how to incorporate Tummy Time into daily routines.
The #TummyTimeDay campaign will run across Pathways.org’s social media platforms, encouraging parents, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and users of the Pathways.org Baby Milestones App to participate. Participants are invited to share their Tummy Time experiences on social media using the hashtag #TummyTimeDay, building a sense of community and support around this essential practice.
Sarah Babula, vice president of Pathways.org, explained the motivation behind the campaign: “We are excited to launch #TummyTimeDay to highlight this simple but powerful daily activity. Tummy Time not only helps babies build crucial skills like head control and core strength, but it also supports bonding between babies and caregivers. For over 35 years, our mission has been to empower families with knowledge and confidence, and Tummy Time plays a vital role in enhancing infant development.”
Pathways.org provides a range of free resources to help families incorporate Tummy Time into daily life. Their Baby Milestones App, available in nine languages, includes a unique Tummy Timer feature, allowing parents to track their baby’s Tummy Time progress. The app also offers over 300 games, articles, and video tutorials, all developed in collaboration with experts in paediatrics, physical therapy, and speech-language pathology. All milestones within the app are supported by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
In addition to the app, Pathways.org offers educational brochures in multiple languages and expert advice from paediatric physical therapists to ensure Tummy Time is both effective and accessible for all families. The organisation’s award-winning resources have become a trusted tool for parents as well as hospitals, universities, and healthcare providers around the world.
With the #TummyTimeDay campaign, Pathways.org hopes to foster greater awareness of this crucial practice, encouraging families to make it part of their daily routines. The initiative also seeks to empower healthcare providers to advocate for Tummy Time as an essential part of infant care. By promoting healthy development “one tummy at a time”, Pathways.org continues its commitment to improving the lives of babies everywhere.
