Worcestershire Community Foundation has distributed a substantial £187,000 to 31 local organisations, as part of its ongoing efforts to support communities in the region. The funding comes from the Strengthening Worcestershire Fund, which was launched last summer in collaboration with Worcestershire County Council.
The grants, averaging £6,000 each, have been awarded to a diverse range of causes, including those that tackle food and fuel poverty, mental health challenges, social isolation, and homelessness. Among the recipients are Worcester Snoezelen, a therapy centre offering leisure activities for people with disabilities and additional needs, and Nightstop, a charity in Wyre Forest and south Worcestershire focused on preventing youth homelessness.
The funding is part of Worcestershire Community Foundation’s broader commitment to strengthening local communities and addressing pressing social issues. Jonathan Chenevix-Trench, Chair of the Foundation, expressed his pride in the initiative and the positive impact it will have across Worcestershire.
“As always, we are proud to continue supporting the outstanding work of the voluntary sector throughout Worcestershire,” said Chenevix-Trench. “This fund, in partnership with Worcestershire County Council, has allowed us to assist a wide array of charities and community groups, ensuring that they can continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of local people.”
He added, “We’re especially grateful to the generous local donors and match funders who contributed to the fund, ensuring that crucial projects will continue to support Worcestershire communities in 2025.”
Among the recipients of the grant, Worcester Snoezelen expressed their gratitude for the support. Jane Roberts, the charity’s Chief Executive Officer, highlighted how the funding would benefit their Activity Wednesday programme, which offers up to 40 adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to participate in stimulating group activities each week.
“We are very grateful to Worcestershire Community Foundation for their generous donation,” said Roberts. “This grant will enable us to continue providing meaningful activities that support the wellbeing and social inclusion of people with learning disabilities.”
Nightstop, which works to prevent youth homelessness, also benefited from the funding. Judith Ford, the charity’s Chief Officer, remarked that the grant would make a significant difference to their ability to help young people in crisis.
“We want to say a huge thank you to Worcestershire Community Foundation,” Ford said. “This funding will enable us to support more vulnerable young people facing homelessness, providing them with the help they urgently need.”
The Worcestershire Community Foundation’s efforts are not limited to this round of funding. The Foundation has a long history of supporting local causes. In 2020/2021, it played a crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic, distributing £1 million to over 370 community projects through its Covid-19 Response Appeal.
Since its formation in 2003, the Worcestershire Community Foundation has distributed over £5 million to local charities, volunteer networks, and causes, working to strengthen communities across the county.
For those interested in supporting local initiatives, the Foundation encourages donations and financial legacies. Contributions help to ensure that support reaches those who need it most in Worcestershire.
