Nord Anglia Education has announced the continuation of its successful partnership with UNICEF for a further three years, reinforcing the shared commitment of both organisations to advocating for children’s rights and promoting global citizenship.
The partnership, which was first established in 2017, aims to empower students to become active change-makers, encouraging them to address global challenges through education and advocacy. With more than 80 schools in 33 countries worldwide, Nord Anglia’s renewed collaboration with UNICEF will focus on inspiring young people to take an active role in achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The key objective of the partnership is to integrate leadership, social advocacy, and global citizenship into Nord Anglia’s educational framework, motivating students to engage in social impact initiatives. Each year, Nord Anglia students are encouraged to participate in activities such as the Youth Advocate Workshops and the annual Student Summit, where they are challenged to tackle issues such as sustainability, equality, and children’s rights. A standout event in this initiative is World Children’s Day on 20 November, where students reflect on the importance of young people as change-makers and advocate for the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
As part of this ongoing collaboration, Nord Anglia Education has pledged US$1.5 million to UNICEF, which will be used to raise awareness of children’s rights and further the SDGs on a global scale. The funds will support UNICEF’s advocacy efforts with governments and international organisations, ensuring children’s voices are amplified in key conversations about issues that impact their lives.
In addition to supporting UNICEF’s global mission, Nord Anglia students are also encouraged to develop and lead their own projects addressing the SDGs. Through Nord Anglia’s Social Impact Grants, students can apply for funding to support sustainable initiatives that contribute to making a positive difference in their communities. A Student Advisory Board, made up of elected representatives from Nord Anglia schools, reviews and supports these applications.
Lord David Puttnam, UNICEF UK Ambassador and Chairperson of Nord Anglia’s Education Advisory Board, expressed the importance of the collaboration, stating, “This unique partnership gives Nord Anglia students the tools to make a meaningful difference in the world. By embedding empathy, social advocacy, and global citizenship into their education, we are helping them create a better future for themselves and generations to come.”
Andrew Fitzmaurice, CEO of Nord Anglia Education, emphasised the significance of the partnership in shaping the future of education. “What makes our UNICEF partnership so powerful is its combination of sustainability, equality, and global citizenship with important leadership skills. These principles are central to our educational approach, and we are thrilled to continue this important work with UNICEF.”
Valentina Buj, Senior Adviser at UNICEF’s Public Sector Engagement Hub, spoke about the impact of the collaboration. “At UNICEF, we believe in the power of children to shape a better future. By partnering with Nord Anglia Education, we are equipping young minds with the knowledge and skills they need to become agents of change in their communities and beyond. Together, we are fostering a generation of leaders who will build a more just, inclusive, and sustainable world for all.”
This continued partnership between Nord Anglia Education and UNICEF underscores the importance of empowering young people to become leaders for change, addressing some of the world’s most pressing issues through education and global collaboration.
